Pantone Color Of The Year 2015….Makeup Inspiration

Pantone_Color_of_the_Year_Marsala_PCI_Logo Pantone have announced their “Color Of The Year 2015” Marsala to a somewhat mixed reception. Pantone describe Marsala as “Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness”. While there are plenty out there who have compared the colour to rust, blood and other not so flattering things. I think it’s a fairly neutral autumnal shade. Marsala reminds me of NARS Douceur blush and the recent craze for Kylie Jenner style lipsticks/liners such as MAC Soar. So I decided to compile a list of Marsala inspired makeup shades from my own collection, along with some Kylie Jenner lip options that I don’t have. *Having spent 20 minutes of my life that I will never get back; trying, and failing to accurately photograph Douceur, the images below are not my own, rather they are from the brands own advertising.

NARS Douceur

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Amazing Grace

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Nude-ist

Mac Whirl & Soar lipliners, along with Mac Velvet Teddy & Faux lipsticks are supposedly the shades Kylie Jenner actually uses. Mac Spice is another lip liner option. More affordable options are available from NYX, with Mauve lipliner being a great dupe for Soar /Whirl and Whipped Caviar is a good dupe for Velvet Teddy/Faux.

What do you make of Pantones new shade of the year? Is it a yay or a nay?

    • Its definitely more versatile. You wouldn’t see too many people on the street wearing that orchid (or whatever they called it) colour on their face of a Wednesday morning heading into work.
